Intel is also pushing its XeSS technology, which utilizes AI hardware inside of the GPU to boost performance. We ran into a few driver-related issues when testing the Arc A380, but things seem to have improved on that front in a few short weeks, as we ran into fewer problems while testing the Arc A770 Limited Edition.

The company is also going to need some serious software muscle to back up its cards, and Intel is pushing hard on this front. If Intel plans to compete in the modern graphics card market, it’s going to take more than just a capable graphics card. Intel XeSS, Smooth Sync, Speed Sync, and Arc Control But these connectors are here on the Arc A770 Limited Edition, at least. Not all Arc A770 cards will have this much extra power available, as Intel also mentioned that Arc board partners could opt to do something different. Intel mentioned this was done explicitly to give customers extra juice for overclocking. The card is officially rated to pull just 225 watts, but these two power connectors, along with the motherboard slot, give the card access to a minimum of 300 watts of power. We hope so, as the card itself looks and feels quite well-made.įor power, Intel added a six-pin power connector and an eight-pin power connector to the card. Its flagship is sold under the name “Intel Arc A770 Limited Edition,” but from what Intel tells us, this will not truly be a limited-run card it will continue to be sold for some time. We’ve not heard yet from any OEMs that will be producing Intel A770 graphics cards, but for the foreseeable future, Intel will be operating as a graphics card OEM, too.

The Not-So-Limited Arc A770 Limited Edition The biggest key change that we can see here being the addition of a dedicated memory controller for the graphics processor. In essence, the design is also similar to the graphics found inside of Intel’s most recent processors, with the obvious exception that the tech has been scaled up for standalone use. It’s difficult to draw meaningful comparisons with AMD and Nvidia graphics cards on an architectural level, as the designs differ too much. This is a first for Intel unless you count the Intel i740 that launched back in the 1990s, and as such we don’t have a long list of architectural changes to go over. At just $20 more, I'd call it a no-brainer if you're already onboard Arc.Īrchitecturally, there’s not much else that we can say about this card.

The 8GB model is a bit less capable in that regard, with 512GB/s of bandwidth, which does give you some added incentive to opt for the 16GB model. The 16GB model is what we have in hand to review today, and 16GB seems a bit overkill for this card at this level of the market, but I’m not about to start complaining about having too much memory! The 16GB model’s memory will operate at 17.5Gbps, which adds up to having 560GB/s of bandwidth between the memory and the GPU core. The core connects to the card's video memory over a 256-bit wide memory interface, and Intel notes we will see models with either 8GB or 16GB of GDDR6 memory. This results in peak throughput of up to 12 box intersections per cycle and one triangle intersection per cycle for each RTU. The GPU core also contains hardware for sorting and reordering the workload for ray-tracing tasks in an effort to improve execution performance and increase throughput. The graphics core is able to operate at a clock speed of 2,100MHz. There are also 128 Ray Tracing Units (RTUs) and 32 Texture Sampler partitions.
